Eligibility

In order to be considered eligible, you must:

• be a native English speaker
• be right-handed
• aged from 5-25
• not have braces on your teeth
• not have any nonremovable metal on your person

Additional Information

The study will take place over two sessions. These two sessions can either be scheduled on the same day or on different days, depending on the participant's convenience and the lab's availability.

The first session takes place in the MRI scanner. For the first hour, we will go over consent forms and instructions for the tasks you will be doing inside the scanner. Then, you will be inside the MRI for about an hour where you will perform tasks that resemble computer games. The first session will take about three hours.

The second session, which can be done before/after the first session or on a different day, takes place in our lab. During this session, you will be asked to perform various computer and paper and pencil tasks. This session will last approximately three hours.

Compensation

You will be compensated $30 per hour for the MRI session and $15 per hour for the lab session.

Test Procedure and Equipment

The procedure for participating in an actual fMRI experiment is fairly straightforward.

• After removing any metal objects you may have, you lie down in the scanner, which is essentially a giant magnet.

• While you perform some sort of experimental task, such as watching a movie or playing a game, the scanner takes pictures of your brain.

• At the conclusion of the study, you will receive your compensation and a few pictures of your brain.

You will be e-mailed an online form which you will then fill out in order to determine if you are eligible for our study.

Upon doing so, if deemed eligible, our lab will work with you to schedule a convenient time for parts one and two of the study.
